BAI Men Provide Service and Tzedakah to the Community
Where does our Money Go?
You can see we have great social programs, because we believe our men need the chance to socialize with other Jewish men. However, we have an important service component to what we do, sharing our time and helping fund raise to benefit others. Tzedakah is our obligation as Jews, and Men's Club is committed to this goal. Here's a description of what we do and where the money we raise goes.
We Volunteer - Manual Labor is our Specialty
We build the Temple Sukkah and setup chairs at High Holidays. We run the Blood Drive, making sure the donors have enough to eat. We serve food at functions for the shul and sisterhood. We help make minyan at night and in the mornings. We run our own Shabbat. We're everywhere the shul needs help. With all we do, we need the help of the 150 men in Men's Club. Join us for setting up chairs during High Holidays, stuffing and mailing yellow candles, helping the golfers on Golf Day, dealing cards on poker night, or barbecuing for the kids at Purim or Sukkot. No previous experience necessary!
Yom Hashoah Program
Through our March of the Living Fund, we provide scholarships to congregants' children who go on the March of the Living, a pilgrimage to the Concentration Camps in Poland and then on to Israel. Our funds come from donations for the yellow candles we send to all congregants in March. When you receive your yellow candle this year in the mail, please consider a donation to the March of the Living Fund.
World Wide Wrap
We subsidize the cost of purchasing tefillin for congregants at our Annual World Wide Wrap. Each year thousands of synagogues promote the wearing of tefillin on the first Sunday in February.
Funds for the Shul
Thanks to our big fundraiser, Golf Day, we are able to provide a commitment to an annual contribution to the Shul General Fund. Last year, we purchased a new BBQ for the shul to use at all cooking events, and we are pleased to commit to be the chefs du jour. Our Annual Poker Night and shirt and kippah sales also provide us with funds for the shul. From our Summer Bowling League, we have made donations to the chapel fund, and are in the process of buying Siddur book racks for all the chairs. This year we'll be using our bowling funds to help Hazak purchase shiva meals for the next year. Don't just send us your money. Join us for a fun activity and get a double benefit from your contribution: enjoy the event and know your money is going for a good cause.
Jewish Adoption Agency and Foster Child Organization
We were pleased last year to buy and assemble for JAAFCO a new sukkah, large enough for the children and their families to dwell and pray during Sukkoth.
We Love Kids
Every year, we provide funds to Camp Ramah to enable children to experience a wonderful Jewish camping experience. We have also bought video equipment for the religious school. We cook at Purim and Hanukah and Sukkot on the new BBQ, and we are taking the kids with our men to the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg. We also have raffle tickets available to sponsor the purchase of food next year for all the casual shul functions.
