Mission Statement

Beth Ahm Israel is a conservative congregation dedicated to serving the spiritual, educational, and social needs of its members. It is a special place where individuals of all ages and interests can join with the community in programs designed to promote Jewish traditions and continuity.

The History of Beth Ahm Israel

In early 1972 a group of 25 families met to share a common goal, the establishment of a firm and organized Jewish presence in the Pembroke Pines area. A small 400 square foot office space was rented, and thus was born Temple in the Pines. Expansion came rapidly, and by the High Holy Days of 1976, there were over 150 families worshipping together. A part-time Rabbi was engaged, and the search for a larger facility began. We then became affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

The synagogue leadership began an intense search for an appropriate piece of real estate, which culminated in the purchase of the "Butler Ranch", in what is now Cooper City, in 1978. The property consisted of 5.5 acres and a 12,000 square foot stable. Congregants themselves transformed the stable into a sanctuary, classrooms, and office space. When completed, many new programs were instituted to reach out to the growing Jewish community.

A merger with Temple Beth Ahm in 1981 resulted in even faster growth.

Rabbi Avraham Kapnek was engaged as the congregation's full time Rabbi in 1984, and Hazzan Eric Lindenbaum joined us in 1986. A merger in 1989 with Temple Israel of Miramar not only resulted in an immediate increase of several hundred more families, but in a name change as well...to Beth Ahm Israel. Today, Beth Ahm Israel serves over 450 member families, is one of the fastest growing congregations in South Florida, and has long been an innovator in Jewish education and programming.

In September of 1992, we dedicated our new facility, the beautiful building in which we pray this Shabbat. This facility contains our 500 seat Prafin Sanctuary, The Rosen Family Social Hall, a kiddush room, the Salamon Chapel, offices, and kitchen with full catering facilities. The old existing building, our former "stable," now accommodates The Byrna Klur Religious School, of some 200 plus students, our Early Childhood Program, the Jewish Learning Place, our special program of Jewish education for children with special needs, all of the activities of our award-winning youth programs.
